| Now located on Water Street in historic Gastown, the Marion Scott
Gallery (MSG) has been contributing to Vancouver's artistic and cultural
life for over three decades. Founded in 1975 by the late Marion Scott,
the gallery is recognized internationally as a leading showcase for
work by Inuit artists from the Canadian Arctic. The gallery's inventory
includes both historical and contemporary expressions from the Far
North, with a strong emphasis on drawings and sculptures.
MSG is currently run by Judy Scott Kardosh, Marion's daughter and
Director since 1989. With curatorial co-direction from Robert Kardosh,
a third-generation family member, the gallery maintains an active
exhibition schedule, presenting on average ten curated exhibitions
per year. Many of these solo and group shows are accompanied by carefully
researched monographs that contribute to the growing body of curatorial
literature on northern Canadian art. In addition to its work with
Inuit artists, MSG represents a small but diverse number of emerging
and established artists based in southern Canada.
The Marion Scott Gallery offers a range of services including
appraisals for all types of Inuit art, collection management and
consulting. Judy and Robert enjoy working closely with private and
corporate collectors to build and maintain important collections
of both northern and southern Canadian art.
