Inuit Sculpture: Classic Works

December 2, 2017 – January 6, 2018

Opening Reception: Saturday, December 2  2:00-4:00 pm.

Introduction

The Marion Scott Gallery is pleased to present a new exhibition of Inuit sculptures from the modern and contemporary periods. Opening December 2 and continuing through January 6, Inuit Sculpture: Classic Works brings together 30 small- and medium-scale works from across the Canadian Arctic, celebrating the form’s diversity of expression. Important works by such acclaimed masters as Judas Ulluluq and Abraham Etungat are featured alongside a range of inventive images by less well-known artists. Exhibition highlights include an image in caribou antler depicting an Inuit family by the Arviat-based folk artist Romeo Eekerkik; a whalebone sculpture of a grazing musk ox by Repulse Bay’s Mark Tungilik; and a small stone rendering of a kneeling hunter by the Baffin Island carver Ennutsiak.
