Ann Kipling: A Tribute
February 10 – March 2, 2024
Ann Kipling was one of Canada’s most distinguished artists. Over the course of a career that spanned five decades, the BC-based artist became known for her unwavering commitment to the medium of drawing. This retrospective exhibition will pay tribute to Kipling’s extraordinary vision, and will include works from several of her most important series.
Ann Kipling was born in Victoria in 1934. She was a resident of Falkland, a small community in the province’s interior, for 45 years, maintaining there a farm property with her late husband, the ceramicist Leonhard Epp. Known for a distinctive visual language that combines elements of abstraction and realism, Kipling forged a unique artistic identity through her commitment to drawing as a medium and practice. In 1995, she had a solo exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery. In 2004, Kipling was the first recipient of the Audain Prize for Artistic Achievement. Her drawings are included in many prominent public and private collections, including those of the Vancouver Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Audain Art Museum. Ann Kipling passed away in 2023.
