Ann Kipling: Duration

Marion Scott Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new and older drawings by Ann Kipling, one of Canada’s most respected artists. Ann Kipling: Duration comprises five pairs of pen-and-ink drawings depicting the British Columbia landscape as seen from the artist’s studio window in the province’s interior. These mostly monochromatic works were produced in 2020 and early 2021, during the pandemic lockdown, an event that has had no measurable impact on Kipling’s unchanging and intensely focused approach to art making. Alongside the new landscape works is an important suite of 7 graphite drawings that the artist produced in 1981, featuring an image of a single tree. The installation also includes a new three-channel documentary video, the first of its kind to record Kipling in the act of making a drawing. Ann Kipling: Duration is Kipling’s third show with MSG.
