Things That Made Judy Happy

We are pleased to announce an exhibition of Inuit sculpture to honour the work and vision of the late Judy Kardosh, MSG’s longtime director and the driving force behind the gallery’s programming. Things that Made Judy Happy brings together a focused body of works illustrating some of Kardosh’s principal interests and passions. The small size of many of the works—many fit easily into the palm of one’s hand—reflects Kardosh’s deep affinity for intimately scaled tactile Inuit sculpture.

Especially close to Kardosh’s heart was the group of stone carvers known collectively as the Arviat School, whose organic representations and radical abstract forms are unique within the history of Inuit art. The display contains works by some of the group’s most revered practitioners, including Elizabeth Nutaraluk, John Pangnark, Andy Miki and Lucy Tasseor.
