Tiny

Our mid-February profile celebrates the expressive accomplishments of Inuit sculptors who work on a small scale. Featuring works in a range of abstract and naturalistic modes of expression, the images originate from communities across Nunavut. Some of the works possess an intricate delicacy that heightens their fascination. Others express a formal strength that belies their modest proportions. Like tiny talismans or amulets, the intimate scale of these works invites viewers to come close to them; in some cases it becomes necessary to handle their forms as a way to fully engage with their tactile properties.
