Shuvinai Ashoona Wins Governor General’s Award

Shuvinai Ashoona is one of eight recipients of the 2024 Governor General’s Arts Awards for Artistic Achievement. The Kinngait-based artist is only the second Inuk artist in history to win the prestigious award. Announced annually, the awards recognize and celebrate the exceptional careers of artists from Canada. The Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts are the most prestigious distinctions for artistic merit and outstanding contribution to the visual and media arts in Canada. The other 2024 winners are Louise Lemieux Bérubé, Michelle Jacques, Barbara Astman, Marjorie Beaucage, Dominique Blain, Don Ritter and Greg Staats. Congratulations to Shuvinai Ashoona and all the winners!
