Shuvinai Ashoona in the Shanghai Biennale

November 19, 2025

Shuvinai Ashoona is one of 67 international artists featured in the 15th edition of the Shanghai Biennale. Curated by Canada’s Kitty Scott, the exhibition, entitled Does the flower hear the bee?, explores various forms of communication between different life forms, including both human and “more than human” intelligence. Ashoona’s large scale drawings depict beings joining and connecting through various means, expressing the exhibition’s theme from a perspective that is both personal and rooted within her northern community. Other Canadian artists featured in the presentation include Kim Adams, Abbas Akhavan, Brian Jungen and Liz Major. The exhibition runs until March 31, 2026.
