Ningiukulu Teevee
Ningiukulu Teevee (b.1963) was born in Kinngait (Cape Dorset) and began creating graphic works in the 1990s, using a variety of mediums such as pen and coloured pencil, oil sticks, pastel, and even watercolour. A renowned storyteller, author, and illustrator, Teevee often incorporates Inuit folklore, legends, and mythology in her depictions of contemporary, everyday life in the Arctic. She is also known for her humorous sensibilities and tongue-in-cheek, pun-filled drawings of Arctic animals such as walruses, owls, and ravens. In 2009, she was nominated for the Governor General’s Literary Award for her children’s book, Alego. She has been featured in over 40 solo and group exhibitions both within Canada and internationally. Her work can be found in the public collections of major institutions, such as the National Gallery of Canada, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
