Jamasee Pitseolak is one of the artists featured in Bestial Encounters, a three-part exhibition on view at the Winnipeg Art Gallery through June 12, 2011. The first part of the exhibition consists of the Winnipeg Alphabestiary, a special project conceived and executed by international arts publication Border Crossings that features paintings and drawings of animals by some of Winnipeg’s leading artists. The second part comprises Captive, a unique collection of heartbreaking works by acclaimed photographer Volker Seding, who spent 15 years taking photographs of animals in zoos. The exhibition’s third component consists of works drawn from the WAG’s permanent collection. These images similarly deal with concepts around communication, language, animals and collecting.
