Lindsay McIntyre’s short film, entitled Nigiqtuq (The South Wind), has been nominated for a 2025 Academy Award for Best Short Live Action Film. About an Inuk mother who lives under the watchful eye of her RCMP officer husband, the film records how both the woman and her daughter are subjected to pressure to surrender aspects of their Inuit culture in order to assimilate to their new life in the South. McIntyre’s film has been garnering many awards on the festival circuit, including Best Live Action Short Award at imagineNative in 2023 and more recently Best Indigenous Short Award at the Arizona International Film Festival.
